WBL250F Summary:
The Weiss WBL250F is our best \"bang for the buck\" lathe. It\'s a full size 10\" x 30\" lathe, which gives you a lot more capacity than other lathes in it\'s price range. It has a brushless, high torque motor, and belt drive. The spindle bore is 1\". It has power feed on both the carriage, and the cross slide, in both directions (this is important, because without power feed, you simply can\'t get a smooth finish). Additionally, the leadscrew drive direction is independently reversible, with a knob on the front control panel of the lathe. This is extremely useful for threading, boring, etc. Some lathes don\'t have this capability, others require you to flip an \"A-B\" gear inside the gearbox (which requires you to shut down the lathe, open the gearbox, get tools out etc). Another truly outstanding feature of the WBL250F is it\'s threading capability. This lathe cuts more threads than any other lathe we\'ve ever seen - 53 total threads, 32 inch threads, and 21 metric threads. No other lathe comes close. The WBL250F is also built to last - it has two oil reservoirs for long life, one for the quick change gears, and one in the apron. The power feed uses a keyway or slot in the leadscrew, meaning you don\'t wear out the leadscrew threads when using power feed. Additionally, the tailstock is a lever lock style, meaning no tools are required to move it or lock it down.
Our Weiss lathes only use inch leadscrews, meaning that when you turn the handwheel, the distance shown on the handwheel matches the actual distance traveled. This may seem fairly obvious, but many manufacturers (in order to make more money) use metric leadscrews. If you buy a lathe like that, your measurements will always be off, because the conversion between metric and inches is not exact.
