WW2 Japanese Officer Sword D-Guard Kyugunto - Hizen Tadayoshi - Family Crest

Note there are MANY photos of this sword at the bottom of this listing.

This is a very nice Japanese Army Officer\'s Katana Sword, mounted in the early D-Guard Kyugunto Style - signed \"Hizen (no) Kuni Ju Nen Tadayoshi\".

Sword with scabbard is 38 1/2\" overall, with a blade length of 27 1/4\". It is an out of the woodwork sword that has never been to a Japanese Shinsa or a collector\'s show.

The large D-guard handle is 8 3/4\" long, with a silver family Mon applied to the back strap. The brass has turned a very nice caramel color. The Same on the grip is very high grade, and the wire wrap is fully intact except for one loop, where only one strand is present.

What can I say about this fabulous blade that the photos don\'t show clearly? The wood burl forging grain is clear throughout the blade. The Hamon is a beautiful wild irregular temper line, with much activity. The temper line runs around the tip with a big turnback (see photo 13). It is a real pleasure to look at this blade! It is bordering on \"tired\" in some spots, which is acceptable for such an old Hizen blade. Photos 29 and 30 show small blisters that could open up if you sent this blade for a new polish - but it doesn\'t need one! Photo 28 shows some staining along the edge - not damage or rust. In fact, this blade has no rust, no pitting, no fingerprints, no chips.

The tang is signed \"Hizen (no) Kuni Ju Nen Tadayoshi\". There were several generations in this school, and I do not pretend to know which generation it is, or even if the Signature is good, as this school\'s work was widely imitated. But one thing\'s for sure - this blade was forged by a very skilled swordsmith, and it is an original, Samurai era blade.

The bright spot on the Tang looks like it was marked there to tentatively have a hole drilled there back when the blade was put in military mounts. The scabbard is untouched and has a lot of rust stains. It would look 1,000% better if the rust was cleaned off.
