• Champion Enlisted in the US NAVY in 1916
• He did much to advance the field of NavalAviation
• Commanded an Amphibious Seaplane Ship during World War Two
• Assigned to the Battleship Michigan in 1920
• May 5th 1927 Lt. Champion took off in aWright Apache and climbed to an altitude of 33,455feat, breaking the existing world record for a Class C Seaplane.
• Champion was Commander of Livermore Naval Air Station from 1943-1944
• Commanded the USS Biscayne (AVP-11) Seaplane Tender 1941-1943
• USS Biscayne was involved in WW2 Invasion Sicily, Anzio, Salerno and the Allied Invasion of Southern France
• His Boat The USS Biscayne was transferred to the Pacific Fleet, arriving at Pearl Harbor in 1945
