…is a beautiful example of the classic Yamaha PX-3 lineartracking turntable. The Yamaha PX-3 is quartz-locked, direct-drive turntable withautomatic playback functions. Features include a coreless Hall motor,light-touch logic controlled automatic operation, high-density, responseresistant BMC base and full cartridge interchangeability.
I purchased this turntable used over 10 years ago for adream analog system I wanted to build. Unfortunately, the time, space or moneydidn’t happen like I planned and it never came to fruition. In fact, the first time I actually heard thiswas when I rigged it up to make a YouTube video which can be found at this link:http://youtu.be/AQs-FfT9pns
As noted in the video, since I was unsure of the stylusin the included Yamaha MC-705 cartridge on my records, I installed a SumikoOyster cartridge from another turntable that I knew was not worn. NOTE: The Yamahacartridge is included with this unitand the Oyster is not. I wouldimagine that anyone interested in a turntable of this quality wouldautomatically replace the stylus if not the entire cartridge with one of theirchoosing.
There are really no known issues with thisunit…everything seems to work properly and it sounds great. There are nocracks, breaks, etc. with the dust cover and it is near scratch free. Only onescratch noticeable to my 66 year old eyes which is so faint I could not get itto show in the photographs. In general, the cover is excellent and opens andcloses very smoothly.
The rubber covered feet on these turntables apparentlydeteriorate with time and that was the case here as well. I removed the shredsof rubber and attached the spring to the adjuster screw with a blob of blacksilicone. This allows the adjuster towork as it should and I would think provides some isolation between it and thespring base. Seems to work just fine and this was done to all four feet.
The box with all the original packing is intact. Theowner’s manual, in good condition, and 45 RPM adapter are also included.
This item is heavy and fragile so the utmost care will begiven in packing. The original box willbe used and that placed inside of asecond box all surrounded by bubble wrap and foam packing peanuts and/or aircushion bags.
