THIS VINTAGE WAYNE ISON DESIGN RULED THE TRACKS

DRIVERS WHO YEARN to make the step up from go-karts to open wheel racing and Indy cars, face an inescapable fact of life. Race cars cost a lot of money. However, a little known half-step from kart to midget are the inexpensive \'Micro-midgets\'.

Capable of 55mph speeds with a Cushman M-8 Industrial engine, these cars are the result of 9 years of experience in building and racing micro midgets by Wayne Ison (photo above). The cost of materials, including a new engine was $400 ( in 1959 dollars). Any make or model gasoline engine that conforms to NMMA specifications can be used. This chassisfitted with a Turbonique turbine engine for demonstrations at Daytona, Fla. and Houston, Tx. has reached speeds of 187.9 mph. (See Turbonique jet kart photos in my store.)
